Match report TOWN'S 2ND X1 finally picked up a well deserved league victory as they squeezed home by 21 runs against Harpenden Dolphins.

Town won the toss and elected to bat and David Harding was asked to fulfil the role of anchor man at the top of the order. He plodded along well with 18 but Town were soon to find runs hard to come by. Sumeet Khetia helped the score along with a streaky 30 whilst Shahmeer Syed, who was to have an eventful day, top scored with an unbeaten 31. Town finished their innings on 165-7.

Skipper Neil Cheesewright elected to open the bowling with youngsters Syed and Meeth Katira as Town needed to immediately get on the front foot. This worked a treat as the pair responded straight away with an excellent bowling performance. Katira picked up two early wickets before Syed continued his 'man of the match' display with a fantastic spell of 6-49 off 17 overs. Whilst the visitors were never really allowed to settle, an early dropped chance let Harpenden's Bonney off the hook and he nearly made the hosts rue that chance as he went on to hit 66 and had every chance of getting the visitors home before being dismissed near the end.
With a small target to defend, Town were never comfortable in a game that was played in excellent spirit , and it wasnt until the final wicket was taken that the celebrations could begin.

Skipper Cheesewright was relieved with the result:
"We're delighted to get off the mark and we deserved that as the lads have never dropped their heads despite earlier poor results. Shahmeer was obviously the star of the show with a great all round display. We now need to keep the momentum going"
