Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost By 12 runs

Match report Northwood Town were left to rue a sub-standard bowling display after almost pulling off what would have been a remarkable chase, posting 268 in response to West Herts' 276-8 declared.

Having lost the toss, Town were soon on the ropes as West Herts plundered boundaries from the start and showed no let up as Joe Warren compiled a brilliant 127. Captain Michael Lister ended up bringing himself on for a rare bowl which immediately brought rewards as he took the key wickets of Warren and Phang, as well as skipper Dan Grahame and the youngster Parmar, Whilst this briefly stemmed the flow of runs, Town couldn't stop the opposition racking up a huge score before declaring after 49 overs.

Town did not start the chase well, losing Lawrence early, but Raj Ahluwalia returned to form in great style as he launched into one of his most fluent innings in years notching up 88 runs from just 93 balls which included 16 fours. With Ahluwalia supported by a late flurry of boundaries from Lister and Mikhil Patel and some huge hitting from Mapara, Town were in the end unfortunate not to steal the 30 points in a fantastic game of cricket that had been played in an excellent spirit in front of a packed NTCC roof terrace.
