Berkhamsted III v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 16 Aug 2014 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost 65 runs

Match report Town travelled to Berkhampstead with a team which was pulled together by people cancelling and altering their own plans so we did not concede the game and lose 10points. A huge thank you goes to these players.

Standing Skipper Tailor continued the poor form of losing the toss and was asked to bowl. M. Katira and P. Pandey opened the bowling and bowled extremely well. Berkhampstead 3rd XI were on the back foot from the start. Both were rewarded with wickets before a bowling change was introduced. Vadgama and Khetia bowled their usual balls with hop, jump and a skip and both were rewarded with wickets too. Town were in full control until the 40th over, Berkhampstead only had 125 runs on the board with 4 wickets left. The last 7 overs saw 61 runs added to the board and this is ultimately were Town handed the game to Berkhampstead. Extras was also their 3rd highest scorer (30). Berkhampstead posted 186 runs in their 47 overs which Town batsmen should have chased down with their eyes closed on this batting track.

With players having to leave early to ensure their handbags matched their attire the batting lineup had to be changed. Regular skipper come our batting hero had to leave at 3.30 and so we only had 10 batsmen. Towns batsmen were too keen to hit 4s and we paid the price - 19 x 4s and 1 x 6, 19 x 1s and 4 x 2s. Had town batsmen looked to take quick singles and push for 2 runs then the game could have been another story. Berkhampsteads R. Patel was rewarded with 5 wickets with smart bowling.

Sir Swami Pradip Pandey again showed us what he is capable off, however it seems his influence has rubbed off on Meeth. Meeth’s first 12 overs went for 36-1 and then batted like a champion and posted his highest score of 40 runs and was unfortunate to be caught on the boundary by a fielder who blended in with the berkhampstead supporters, he was towns player of the match by far.

This loss may have made our life difficult in pushing for promotion however it’s not over till the fat wicket keeper sings and we have 2 games left to push hard for the last 60points up for grab and hope the team above us drop some points in the process.

Roll on Redbourn 4s.
