Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Reed II on Sat 19 May 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won By 2 wickets

Match report NTCC 1st team finally got their league season underway on a glorious sunny day.
Reed II’s won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Daly and Lawrence started well, with the scoring rate slow it was Sampson who tried to up the tempo and fell to a good catch at cover by Loomba. A change in bowlers made scoring even more difficult with Silva and Vadgama strangling the batsmen with tight lines. Vadgama picked up a couple for his efforts and Silva just 1 after a lovely spell, seeing only 10 runs off his 8 overs.

Krunal and Mikhil continued the good work bowling in tandem trying to keep the rate low and pressure on the batsmen. Bowles looked dangerous and started to score quickly but lost his wicket in the process. A good ball by Mikhil. The pair picked up a few more wickets and were unlucky not to finish the innings early after some drops in the field. They made runs hard to come by though and Reed finished on 163. Town could have limited them further but it wasn’t to be. 164 was the target. Good bowling and energy in the field had the overs bowled in double time and didn’t give Reed a chance to open up.

After a wonderful tea courtesy of Krunal and his family NTCC looked to chase an average total. With Loomba picking up and injury in the field Mikhil was sent to open with Veer and they set off in good fashion. Punishing some loose bowling. When Veer fell Mikhil continued with Sangeet, scoring quickly. With the reintroduction of pace it looked like Sangeet was going to motor but fell attacking spin at the other end. Burty steadied the ship but couldn’t do anything about wickets tumbling at the other end. Town continued to lose wickets cheaply. Loomba having a runner causing unsurprising confusion ending in a run out. More loose batting saw town sinking further and further in to a hole of their own making.

It was left to Burty and Krunal to bring us home. The pressure was felt with one Reed over taking 14 balls to complete. A case of the yips not seen as severely since Nishil Mapara forgot how to bowl. It looked like Town would win in extras at one point. Burty and Krunal batted sensibly punishing bad balls, showing it really wasn’t as difficult as the rest had made it look.

A nail biting chase pulled off in true NTCC style made for an interesting game.
