Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v West Herts II on Sat 14 Jul 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets

Match report Northwood Town welcomed top of the league West Herts 2s to Chestnut Avenue, desperate to bounce back after the disappointing loss the week before.

Winning the toss, Town decided to bat on yet another beautiful summers day. Town lost quick wickets with some tight bowling from the openers, particularly from Magee. The top 4 all went within the first 10 overs and town were completely stunned with the start they had made to the game at 27/3, 51/4 and 63/5. Enter Kyle Lawrence, the most in form batsman at the club looking to make it 3 half centuries in a row in his new found number 6 position, a position it seems he was born to do as he fought back for the town with some excellent cover drives and pull shots to punish the West Herts bowlers whenever they bowled a loose delivery. Lawrence, with help from the free hitting K. Patel with some excellent batting at the tail, helped town steer towards a competitive 175 all out on what wasnt an easy pitch to bat on.

In response, Town knew they were in this game if they hit the right areas as there was plenty of life in this pitch. The Kyle Lawrence show continued as he was bowling like a man possessed with speed accuracy, seam and swing. Completely bamboozling the top order of the league leaders to have them stranded at 45/5 staring down the barrel. 'Kyle Lawrence, remember the name' was being murmered around the ground as the local football supporters also came to watch the carnage Lawrence was causing. Unfortunately, as the ball got older, the batting got easier and Mason and Harding looked to rebuild and fight back against Town. With a couple of dropped chances and a couple of decisions going West Herts way, Harding and Mason rode their luck to build a fantastic partnership, the latter with some huge sixes, some of the biggest seen at the town for a long while. A class knock by both Mason and Harding saw the league leaders home and Town recorded a second loss in a row.

Loomba spoke after the game: 'It was a must win game for us so really disappointed with the result, Mason and Harding batted superbly to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. The guys need to pick themselves up from this, work hard in the nets and come back strong against Reed. We will be giving our all on the field in the hope of getting back to winning ways.'
