Chorleywood II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 04 Aug 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won By 4 runs

Match report Town won yet another toss and elected to bat on a super hot day in Chorleywood.

Once again Loomba and Vadgama started off in solid fashion, leaving the ball well and punishing the bad ball, Vadgama in particular playing really free flowing shots until playing one too many and being trapped plumb LBW. Burt continued his excellent form this season and made it look easy, hitting through the line with power and picking up a boundary almost every over. Loomba continued to toil at the other end and despite not being his most fluid performance, gave a Dean Elgar like performance showing grit to bring up another half century before departing with the score on 140/3. As wickets continued to tumble, there was a brief cameo from Silva at the end but Town finished on 196 all out, a very disappointing finish considering the start they had.

In response, Lindsay and Brown started off very quickly, hitting the brand new ball hard on a quick outfield as Malik and Shah tried to restrict them as much as they could. Sajid picked up the wicket of Lindsay after a fantastic catch from Loomba but overall Chorleywood seemed really comfortable chasing this down at 81/1 off 16 overs. Enter Vadgama who with great support from Silva tore through the Chorleywood middle order to get Town right back into the game. Suddenly, the energy and belief instilled within the town fielders was evident as Vadgama and Silva bowled in great tandem to trouble the home team as they went from 81/1 to 97/6. As Vadgama and Silva were through their 10 overs it was now up to the spinners M. Patel and Kotecha to finish it off but with skipper Jeremy Hinds still at the crease, it wasn’t going to be easy. Playing a real class, patient innings, Hinds somehow managed to guide Chorleywood to what seems like an inevitable victory with just 6 needed from the final over of the game and Town requiring the 1 wicket. Raj Kotecha who had a fantastic day with the ball, trapped number 11 Goodier LBW in the second ball of the over to win the game for Northwood Town followed by jovial celebrations.

Loomba spoke after the game: ‘Another fantastic game where in previous seasons we probably would have lost but the fact we got over the line shows our belief in our ability this year to win close games. The guys will know that we should’ve done much better today and we will look to be a lot more convincing next week as we travel to Stevenage.’
