Offley & Stopsley v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 05 May 2018 at 01:00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 66 runs.
Match report
Northwood Town's second team arrived at the Offley Place on a lovely sunny day, perfectly set for some good cricket. Town had no hesitation in inserting the opposition after winning the toss.
New ball was shared by Malik and Daly who both bowled beautifully with good control, making full use of damp and green pitch. Daly got 2 early wickets to put some pressure on the opposition as runs were very hard to come by due to some very tight bowling and the assistance that pitch was offering. soon everybody realised that scoring rungs on this track is going to be very hard.
After a good opening spell of bowling, good work was continued by Pratik Patel and Sunny Patel, the theme was constant, scoring was hard and boundaries were harder to come by. Wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals but Offley batsmen kept fighting and kept on building small partnerships. At later stage, Vadgama and Kotecha kept the tight leash and checked the Offley lower order who were trying to score some quick runs. Special mention for Vadgama on taking an excellent catch of his own bowling. In the end, Offley ended up scoring 118 all out in 48.5 overs.
After an average tea, Town were quite upbeat about chasing a small total in a hope that pitch would become easier to bat as the mercury kept on increasing. Town opened with Ram Patel and Janardhan and soon realised that mercury theory was going straight into the bin. Ram fell early and Janardhan, despite looking good, got run out. Ramawat holding on to one end saw wickets tumbling at a regular interval and scoring runs were as hard as finding a patch of cloud on a sunny day.
23 for 5 in 20 overs got Ramawat and Vadgama together, who tried hard to sore runs and build some sort of partnership. By this time it was quite clear that we had to really work had for every single run. Together they put on 15 runs in 9 overs to highlight the obvious. Vadgama perished in order to keep the momentum up followed by Ramawat leaving scoreline standing at 46 for 7 in 31 overs. In the end, Town's innings came to an end in 34th over with 52 on board, loosing the game by 66 runs.
It was hard to take the loss specially by the margin and the batting effort. We bowled well, fielded well and took some of our catches. Still a long way to go in improving our catching and lots to learn on how to bat on a damp pitch and helpful conditions.
We need to learn how to build small partnerships and bat in tough conditions. Skipper would urge everyone to take positives and 'areas of improvements' from this game and work on them.
