Great Gaddesden v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 19 May 2018 at 01:00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 62 runs.
Match report
Northwood Town 2s arrived at the Great Gaddesden on a glorious sunny day, weather was perfect and the sun was beating down making it perfect for a game of cricket. Town won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. Vinodh & Ravi started the innings with positive intent but soon lost Vinodh to Humphreys who was bowling perfect line lengths with a gentle pace that was hard to put away. Fozan joined Ravi but soon fell to Humphreys again on a very good delivery. This got Pradip and Ravi together and they started stitching a partnership together. Gaddesden kept bowling good deliveries making it hard for the batsmen to score freely but both batsmen ensure that they ran hard and encashed every opportunity to score . At the stroke of drinks, in 23th over Ravi got out on 37, bringing an end to a good 43 runs partnership.
New joiner, Tanveer joined the middle and immideadtly put the bowlers under pressure by putting bad balls away and started to score quickly. Together, Tanveer and Pradip scored 58 in the next 10 overs. In an attempt to put a half tracker away, Tanveer got out by lobbing a catch in covers, leaving scoreline 115/4 in 33 overs. At this time, it looked like a score of 200 was in-sight. Sunny joined the middle and soon found it hard to get going. In order to achieve that 200 mark, both Pradip and Sunny got out in the next 7 overs with score 124 for 6 in 40 overs. At this juncture, even a score of 150 was looking very unlike but Kotecha batted really well with the rest of the batsmen and ensured that town crossed the 150 mark, ending the innings on 157 all-out in 46th over. Although a lot less then what was anticipated but the team felt it was enough to defend as it was quite difficult to score from length deliveries.
After tea break, senior pro Malik and Shameer started the bowling attack. As predicted, it was evident that scoring was difficult from good length deliveries. The senior pro Malik, who bowled with an excellent control was unlucky to get any wickets as he repeatedly missed either the stumps or an edge. Soon Keval was introduced in search of the 1st wicket and he did not disappoint as he got Gaddesden skipper cleaned-up with a peach of a delivery who was looking very good. Pradip was introduced from the other end and soon destroyed the remaining top and middle over by taking 3 quick wickets and a good fielding effort got Gaddesden reeling at 49 for 5 in 19th over. At this point, Town were sniffing something but the Senior Cheesman from Gaddesden came to the crease with a different view, he held one end and started to rotate the strike and started to build a partnership with no 7 and soon the partnership started to look threatening with scores reading at 84 for 5 in 30 overs. Kotecha who was bowling with good control, finally got rewarded and got no 7 caught at mid-wicket and soon in his next over, he got no 8 out lbw. Ram was introduced from the other end and he also from the ball one, found his mojo and got the stubbern Sr Cheesmen out with a delivery that drifted and turned and rooted his off-stump and sealed the game. The last 3 wickets were shared between Kotecha and Ram.
Overall, a good hard fought & well deserved victory, putting town on course. We batted well, we bowled well and fielded well. A tough match coming up next week against West Herts which will decide who stays in top3.
