Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Redbourn IV on Sat 16 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
On an overcast day The Mighty 3s welcomed Redbourn to Chestnut Avenue in what turned out to be a good spirited and fun game. Having won the toss Town decided to bat first on the astro and came up against a very disciplined attack that bowled consistently well throughout. Ajay Lal was the pick of the Town's batsmen hitting some nice shots along with stern defence to help build something of a platform but unfortunately he was the only one to really get going as wicket fell cheaply on an slow outfield that never really gave any value for shots played. In the end Town were bowled out for a below par score of 74. After a lovely tea the only way back into the game would be to take quick wickets and opening bowlers Parmar and Kayani set the tone well, putting pressure squarely back onto Redbourn's batsmen. Khetia and Myring then came on to bowl with great effect both creating chances with the former snaring two wickets to put Town right back in the game. Sadly with such a low total on the board any bit of good fortune the batsmen had was making it harder for us and when Shaw combined with Jones for what was a very good shout for a stumping and also had a tough catch go down off of him the last chance had gone and Rebourn were able to achieve their target. It was a great effort from Town in the field and we applied the pressure throughout but sadly with very few runs to play with it was always going to be a tough ask but we should be proud of our efforts, knowing that if we had an extra 30 runs on the board we could have won.
