Match report Town travelled to Watford Town II (WTII) looking to build some winning momentum after last week’s win over the league leader. Rain delayed start of the match and it was reduced to 42 overs per side. Town won the toss and chose to field first.

WTII batters only had one way of paying the game go after every ball from the first over. R Aggarwal and V Vadgama however bowled well keeping the run rate below 4 an over. Despite the outfield being little wet Pitch however was completely dry and did not offer seamers much. Both seamers dismissed the openers leaving WTII on 33/2 in 10 overs. Skipper replacing Vadgama kept things tight an I Anjum from the other end also kept it tight picking up 2 wickets. Just like every week Town spinners were on to restricting run rate and N Madhavan also bowled with great discipline. But J Halai leading wicket takes for the team yet again showed how under rated bowlers he has been over the years for the Town. Just when Town were hoping to restrict them to about 160 odd some good cameo from WTII lower order pushed the run rate in the death overs. However, J Halai did not change his bowling plan and ended up with bowling figures of 32/4 in 6 overs (which included a near hattrick but there was a team hattrick instead). Town were set 190 to chase on wicket that was good for batting.

As has been the case for Town this year V Vadgama departed early leaving town on 11/1. S Modi and R Aggarwal started building a good partnership and putting away and bad balls. WTII bowlers, however were bowling with good control. S Modi looked in great form hitting boundaries all around the ground which included his trademark straight drives! However, he was unlucky when he was given LBW having hit the ball leaving Town on 89/4 in 25 overs. S Modi with a fine inning of 41. Burt and Madhavan batted well to put on 42 runs partnership but at this stage asking run rate began to climb up. Town started losing wickets with lower middle order struggling to build partnerships. Town eventually finished on 176/9 losing by 14 runs.

K Patel spoke after the game: We thought we fielded and bowled well to restrict them to 190. On a pitch that was batting friendly we should have chased down the target. But still happy with the effort from the lads and shame we could not get over the line. J Halai yet again showed how important bowler he has become this season for Town and long it may continue!

Town will welcome Luton Town & Indian II next week.
