Abbots Langley II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 07 May 2022 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 83 runs

Match report Town started the season off away at Abbots Langley on an overcast Saturday morning and a slightly damp ground. The pitch looked good and but under the wet conditions, may be a little difficult to bat on so it was a surprise when Town lost the toss and were asked to bowl first.

Town opened the bowling with the skipper Sajid Malik and left armer Viral Patel. Town bowled well, restricting the opposition batsmen from scoring any easy runs and the opposition’s score of 64 – 1 is testament to this. However, the opposition was equal to this and was able to hold in and build a solid partnership for the rest of their team to build on. The first breakthrough came through a low full toss from Pradip Pandey which was chipped to short midwicket where Rahul took a low diving catch to his right. The opposition batsmen carried on, steadying the innings and building their score. Towards the end of the innings, Abbots Langley started to accelerate the run rate and other than a wicket from the skipper and two expensive wickets from Krunal Puwar, the opposition pushed towards a total of 193 from 40 overs.

After a pleasant tea provided by the opposition, Town headed out to chase a target of 194. Town started positively with Deepak scoring a couple of boundaries but an unfortunate shot to the point ended the opening partnership in the first over. Rahul headed in next and looked good, playing a couple of nice shots before getting caught trying to loft a shot over mid-off. Keeran walked in at 4 and played some nice shots initially, scoring at a good rate and putting some pressure on the opposition bowlers but before long, he was bowled trying to ramp up the run rate as well. Kunal Patel followed suit, walking in, looking good for a couple of balls, and then getting out after holding out for a little while. Town’s wickets were tumbling consistently left, right and centre, and soon enough, town collapsed to a score of 110, despite some resistance from Ravi and Viral.

It was not the start that the 2’s had wanted to the season but at least there was consolation in new inductees to the 2’s, Harry and Mairaj.
