Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Stevenage III on Sat 14 May 2022 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets

Match report Town hosted Stevenage on our main ground with a lovely track prepared by our new groundsman John. With the sun out and the strip looking good, town won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Ravi and Deepak headed out to open the scoring. Ravi and Deepak both looked good, playing their shots and running till Ravi was dismissed with a caught and bowled. Rahul came in and together, they both built a fantastic 100 run partnership, playing patiently, watchful of the good balls and dispatching any bad balls. Deepak was the next to fall with 40 and in came Keeran, who played a couple of deliveries before getting caught at mid on trying to go above the fielder. Town’s middle order started to collapse and after Rahul had been dismissed for a fantastic 93, the runs had slowed with Town just about reaching 177, something that Town will feel was about 30 runs short of what they should have scored given the great start they had.

After a quick tea break, Town headed out to defend the 177 score and after some encouraging words from the skipper, town headed out to defend the total. Town started well probing the opening batsmen from Stevenage who were watchful and managed to break the opening partnership through the skipper with the opener getting caught at extra cover. Hiren then applied the pressure at the other end and took the next wicket and soon Town were able to take the lead and break down the opposition. Viral’s excellent spell saw Town take two quick wickets and soon enough, the visitors were looking edgy and unsure. Town kept taking wickets at regular intervals, but the opposition’s main batsman was present throughout all of this, being watchful and scoring runs off the bad balls. Putting together an innings of 62 runs, P. Garikipati was able to carry his team to a very close victory, winning by 2 wickets with just 9 balls to spare. An extra 30 runs from Town and this may have been a victory but a great bowling, batting and fielding performance overall.
