NTCC 50th Celebration Day

10 Sep 2023

As part of Northwood Town Cricket Club’s 50th anniversary, a very special Celebration Day will take place on Sunday September 10th - and we would love for you to attend.

The day is being held in honour of all those club members who have helped the club survive and thrive over the last five decades but who are sadly no longer with us. It will feature a tribute match where a Peter Spencer/Martin Bird XI takes on a Richard Robbins/Alan ‘Ace’ Phillips XI, a Bowl Off competition open to all and a BBQ.

The itinerary is as follows:

Midday - Clubhouse and bar open

1.30pm - NTCC Bowl Off Tournament

Everyone is welcome to take part and turn their arm over in a bid to hit those elusive stumps and be crowned champion! Can Sumeet Khetia successfully defend the title he won in 2016? Time to find out…

2.30pm - Peter Spencer/Martin Bird XI vs Richard Robbins/Alan ‘Ace’ Phillips XI

Paying tribute to these late club members whose selfless efforts made and continue to make such a difference to the club. Format and captains TBC, but will be somewhere around a 25 overs per side game and the hope is to have many old boys back on the pitch together, bolstered by the comparatively young pups who still don the whites. If you wish to play, please let Ben Rawson-Jones (rawsonjones@gmail.com), Gerry Pimm( glpimm@hotmail.com or Jack Daly know - or make sure your availability is up to date on the NTCC website if you’re a current member.

If you’re a former player and aren’t sure about getting through a whole match or even most of it, then it’s fine to come on for a few overs, stand at slip, engage in some mild-mannered sledging against old teammates, then get subbed off again - or just have a bat or bowl. It’ll also be fine to borrow some kit. Just let us know what you’re able to do as we’re keen to accommodate as many folks as possible wanting to set foot on the hallowed, undulating turf of Northwood Town CC again.

The match will be preceded by several short speeches paying tribute to several late club members and highlighting their efforts for NTCC. Hopefully that will help to inspire others in attendance to continue their good work. If you wish to give one of these speeches, please contact Ben R-J and let him know who you wish to speak about.

5pm(ish) - BBQ

There will be a BBQ on the roof terrace featuring avery reasonably priced selection of treats for carnivores and vegetarians alike. Thanks so much to Abs for running this. We’ll need to know rough numbers to know how much food to order, so there will be more contact closer to the day to gauge this.

The bar will of course be open well into the evening for post-match refreshments!

We dearly hope you’ll make the effort to support this event in some capacity if you’re free - whether it be to watch, catch up with friends old and new, or to take part in the Bowl Off or Tribute Match. Here’s to fine weather, a fantastic day and a celebration of what and who made Northwood Town CC so special.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions by the way.

Many thanks,
Jack Daly
