Northwood Town Cricket Club News story

RIP Sally Bird

26 Feb 2024

Northwood Town Cricket Club are sad to announce the passing of our valued friend and member Sally Bird (Vice President).

Sally moved to Northwood Hills along with her husband Martin in the 1960s, after he found a house at the bottom of Highland Road in very close proximity to a cricket club that they were to become integral parts of. Sally kindly volunteered behind the bar in those early years, which saw the merger of Northwood Hills CC and Central Northwood CC into Northwood Town CC in 1973.

With her sons Andy and Colin playing cricket for the club and Martin becoming Treasurer and later President, Sally continued to be a regular presence at the Town over the coming decades. In more recent years, it has been a delight to enjoy Sally’s increased involvement in the club. She brightened up many a summer cricket game and social event, often proudly wearing her NTCC hoodie, and kindly helped out at volunteer events to improve Northwood Recreation Ground.

Her love of art was always a big part of her life and members will continue to enjoy her talent through the beautiful watercolour painting of the clubhouse she kindly donated to us that’s on display in the club’s lounge. It was always a pleasure to hear her talk about her experience with art and how it came into her life and how her passion continued.

Sally and her family have had a huge impact on the club over the years and her presence, much like that of Martin, will be hugely missed. We will always remember the loving and caring lady who selflessly supported us along with her family.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her wonderful family and our thoughts are with them during this tough time.
