Northwood CC v Northwood Town Cricket Club Midweek on Thu 15 Jul 2010 at 6.15pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 32 runs
Match report
Northwood Town grabbed the local bragging rights with a 32 run victory over neighbours Northwood in a reduced T20 game at the Ducks Hill Road ground. Having elected to bat first, Town's innings was disrupted after 8 overs when a spectator was taken ill and an ambulance was called. After the delay, skippers Hills and Richardson agreed to change the format to 16 overs for Town and 15 for the hosts.
Before the incident, Town lost Scott Walker and Rukshan Senanayaka cheaply before Richard Robbins and Glenn Hodges set about building an innings on a green and lively wicket. The pair took Town up to 80 with some hefty blows before Hodges was bowled for 34. Skipper Hills joined Robbins at the crease and despite surviving with some generous fielding by the oppo', clubbed his way to a quickfire 31. Robbins held his bat through the 16 overs and finished on 49 not out as Town posted a decent score of 141/5.
Town's efforts in the field were generally top class as they kept the pressure on the home batsmen. With Hills rotating the bowling, Northwood were always behind the run rate and only Gibb looked comfortable on his way to a half century. Wickets fell at regular intervals but Shaun O'Neill was the hero for Town as his leg-spin helped him to four wickets including a hat-trick, with Jack Daly taking the all important catch on hat-trick ball.
Town's all-round performance was decent and they ran out worthy winners as Northwood could only muster 109/9. Town now turn their attentions to the weekend and with good availability, will be looking for 60 points in their respectove battles to survive relegation while Town send a 3rd XI for a friendly against Bourne End.
