Baldock v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 30 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 156 runs

Match report On a scorching day, Town travelled to Baldock with the hope of making it 5 wins in a row.

Town lost the toss and were asked to bat to the surprise of all. Baldocks captain must have instantly regretted that decision as openers Loomba and M. Patel started quickly and put the Baldock bowlers under real pressure by punishing every bad ball they got given before the fun came to an end after 11 overs with the score on 85 as Loomba departed caught at midwicket top edging a pull shot and soon followed by M. Patel out LBW and town desperate not to collapse at 90/2.

Cotton played the Cotton way with his promotion at 3 and looked to steady the ship and rotate where possible giving great support to the in-form Burt. Burt played sensibly and smartly, dispatching the ball all over the ground. After the loss of JC, Burt was soon joined by Lawrence who looked to score quickly and get Town to another big total. Burt, making it look easy managed to get to his 100 with balls running out and reaching his century in the penultimate over soon followed up with a 50 off the last ball of the innings by Lawrence, his second consecutive 50. After a cracking knock by Burt and well deserved with his recent rich vain of form, Town notched up 284 from their 50 overs.

In response, with scoreboard pressure on from ball 1, Town had practically won the game after the openers initial spell. Daly and Lawrence bowled such tight lines and had Baldock 36/2 off 14 overs. After this point there was no real intention from Baldock to go for the win and used the game as batting practice, similar to other teams in recent weeks v Town. Enter Keval Shah whose recent promotion from the 2s has been grasped with both hands. A superb 10 over spell of tight bowling with regular seam movement had Baldock with no answers as he ripped through their middle order. With contributions from Silva, K. Patel and Kotecha, Town made it 5 wins on the trott and promotion hopes a real possibility.

Loomba spoke after the game: 'Another convincing win as we put pressure on the top 2. It was a pleasure watching Burty bat today and couldnt be happier for him as he continues to score runs for us each week. The next 4 weeks are vital in our push for promotion as we play both the top teams so we will need to take all of our momentum with us and if we play like we have been, it will take a real good side to stop us.'
