Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Offley & Stopsley on Sat 07 Jul 2018 at 01:00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 35 runs.

Match report The entire country going through a perfect summer with very high temperatures and England set to take Sweden in a world-cup quarter final for 2018 world cup, it was set to be a perfect day for sports. Town lost the toss and opposition asked us to bat first. Due to the football match, the game was reduced to 40 overs an innings each with the idea to finish the 1st innings around the kick-off time and start the next innings post the game. Town openers, Haji and Ramawat started positively by putting away any loose ball and taking every opportunity of singles, when presented and soon they were 38 without any loss in 5 overs. The momentum continued and by the 10th over, it was 60 without any loss. Both openers continued putting anything loose to the boundary and rotate the strike when they could. In the process of increasing the run-rate after couple of tight overs, Ramawat got out on 45 but before that, together they laid a solid foundation for a big total. P Patel joined the middle, in order to keep the tempo up and did a fine job and scored brisk before getting out on 29. On the other end, Haji, kept compiling his innings after his 50 and without any notice he moved into 80s. Pandey continued with the intent but soon perished in 30th over. Haji on the other end was going on and was getting better with every passing minute, hitting some lovely straight boundries and soon he got his 100 with a superb drive. It was a fine compiled innings full of control and composure. Haji in the end got out to a fine catch at the boundary. Duo of Patel brothers towards the end ensured that town reached a very competitive total of 245 in their 40 overs, specially younger Patel, by playing some lovely shots along the ground.

This was the moment the entire nation was awaiting for, Eng v Sweden on a big projector screen and lovely tea with open bar, precious! England winning the game 2-0, it was time to take the field again. New ball was shared by Syed and Pandey and they both started well but as expected, Offley came out with a plan to go after the bowling and started to play their shots but soon lost dangerous Ansari who was looking for a big score to a Syed special, caught by S. Patel. Offley No 3 started to build the innings slowly & gradually testing towns patience as the score moved to 85 in 15 overs with 1 wicket.

Double bowling change in the form of P. Patel and Avadhani continued putting the ball in the good areas on a track where anything full or short had a boundary written all over it. The latter bowled with beautiful control, putting every delivery on a good length as asked by the skipper, made scoring runs very hard and scoring rate dropped significantly and town were soon rewarded with 3 quick wickets falling to P. Patel. These wickets were the result of some tight bowling by both, specially Avadhani. Score at 104 for 4 in 25 overs, Offley needed 140 odd in the next 15 overs with 6 wickets in hand. The ball was passed on the next bowling pair of R. Patel and Gordhandas. Offley kept working on their run rate keeping them in the game and Town bowlers at all times ensured that the required rate kept creeping upwards. In this process Offley lost two more wickets, run-out due to run-rate pressure and by the time R. Patel took next wicket, it was all but over for Offley as they needed 60 runs in the last 4 overs. In the end Offley ended they innings on 215 for 6 in their allocated 40 overs.

A very fine win against the league toppers, a win that was much needed and was laid on a brilliant ton by Haji and then some fine bowling in the field. We must save what we did best in todays game and apply in the rest of the season.

Onwards & Upwards!
