Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 164.

Match report Town hosted Little Berko Sahib on a day with overcast conditions. Winning the toss, town had no hesitation in deciding to bowl first. In the absence of its regular bowlers, Pandey and Syed shared the new ball and were rewarded with couple of wickets in the 1st 15 overs with a score line of 56 for 2. Town were unfortunate that they were not rewarded with another wicket in the form of a run-out as everyone except the umpire though the batsmen made it back into the crease. From there on, LBS had a 3rd wicket partnership of 146 runs which was a mix of caution early on and later making full use of loose deliveries.

Town managed to break that partnership in the 39th over when LBS were on 196 for 3. From there on it was quite clear that they were going to go after everything in pursuit of a big score. LBS ended up scoring a very good total of 278 for the loss of 7 in their allotted 50 overs. The only stand out bowling performance was from Naqvi who bowled with good control giving away 34 runs for 2 wickets.

After a lovely tea made by Mrs Pandey, town openers Mekwan and Syed started the chase, Mekwan as expected hit some lovely boundaries before getting out early in the 5th over. Rajpoot joined Syed in the middle but couldn’t last long and that was the case for the remaining town batsmen except Anjum who showed his class and temperament showing how to score. All he asked from every single batsmen to stay and that is exactly what each one of them did not do. Finally Anjum (43*) ran out of partners as town were bowled out on 114 in the 32nd over.

It was a heavy defeat but this is something we need to take on our chin and move on. Last league game against Northchurch and it would be great to end the league on a high note.
