Northwood Town Cricket Club Midweek v Northwood HQ on Thu 10 May 2018 at 6pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 43 runs.
Match report
On a cool Thursday evening, while Town players arrived in batches for the 1st home game of the season, Northwood HQ players were all ready and having a proper pre-match drills, any skipper would be proud of.
It was mutually agreed between the skippers that Town would bat first given the Town players were still arriving by 6pm.
Town innings was opened by Ramawat and ‘comeback king’ Rawson-Jones. Both started cautiously but soon took the T20 colours and started to play their shots. On a decent outfield, most of these shots would have fetched boundaries but today they were yielding 1 or 2 at best. Despite slow and sluggish outfield, Town managed to score exact 50 for no loss in their 6 overs of power play.
Both the openers kept playing their shots and kept the scoreboard moving in the next few overs. In the 10th over the openers decided to retire at the end of the over and in order to score some quick runs, Ramawat got out on 43 and that brought an end to an excellent opening partnership of 83 runs in 10 overs. Before retiring, Rawson-Jones showed that he is a true comeback king and looked in complete touch and control during his stay. This got the next pair Pandey & Fanner together onto the crease and they too found scoring runs very difficult. In order to keep the momentum, Fanner got run-out. Lawrence joined Pandey in the middle and two kept the score board ticking and the score was 100/2 at the end of 15 overs.
The need of the hour was to score some quick runs towards the end of the innings and this is what exactly Lawrence did. Hitting some lovely trademark lofted drives, Lawrence took the Town score to 135 in their 20 overs staying 32 not out while Town lost Pandey and Sunny Patel trying to up the ante at the other end.
At the break, town felt they had enough runs on the board, given the bowling line-up they had and the outfield conditions. New ball was shared between Malik and Shah, both bowling beautifully but the senior pro, Malik bowled some really good probing lengths and got rewarded with 2 quick wickets in his opening spell. Soon Northwood HQ were another man down runout courtesy some fine fielding. HQ were 25 for 3 in their first 6 overs of power play. HQ batsmen Murray & Ramsey slowly started to build the innings and later Murray hit some lovely shots and started to look threatening but Pandey took a lovely catch to send him back of Pratik Patel’s bowling who cleaned-up HQ’s next batsmen.
As 50 for 5 in 12 overs, it was always going to be difficult for HQ to come back into the game. As it was getting dark, skipper decided to bowl spin from both ends, and some good bowling from Rawson-Jones got him 2 wickets, one of them was Gunuwardhney who scored 29 and was looking good. In the end, HQ finished their innings on 92 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Town won the game by 43 runs.
Good performance overall, couldn’t have asked for more. Onwards & Upwards.
