Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report Town 1’s welcomed Hitchin II looking to put last week’s embarrassing defeat behind them! With hot weather forecasted both skippers wanted to win the toss and bat first. However, Hitchin won the toss and asked town to bowl first.

Hitchin batters started very well putting away anything lose as pitch did not offer must assistance. However, J Daly soon found his rhythm and Hitchin were 52/3 with Daly taking all the wickets. Maylin and Guest set about building a partnership despite skipper K Patel and I Anjum bowled tight without any success. Maylin was impressive playing shot all around the ground. Hitchin’s 4th wicket partnership of 75 runs got them back in the game and looked like they were on target to score 250+. However, I Anjum removed dangerous looking Maylin and Town’s top wicket taker J Halai removed Guest. N Madhavan bowling death over also kept it tight taking 3/41 in his 9 overs. J Daly also finished with 3/40. Given the weather and a good-looking pitch Town did well to restrict Hitchin to 239 all out.

Town started their inning with aggression. N Madhavan initially took the charge punish any lose deliveries in emphatic fashion. While Town’s run machine R Aggarwal conituned his fine form with the bat. Town lost N Madhavan and A Unalkat leaving them 73/2. However, M Patel joined R Aggarwal and started putting on a good partnership. They put on 57 runs together during with Aggarwal passed another 50 for the season. Only R Pant is in a better batting form than Aggarwal in the world cricket. But Town do not like doing thigs easy way R Aggarwal departed after a fine inning of 81. With M Patel and I Anjum also departing Town were 200-5. And still 40 runs away from the target. D Gairola though made sure from that point Hitchin bowlers did not get a sniff in. He took the attack to them scoring runs all around the ground as it started raining 4s. Gairola quickly raced to 33* in not time seeing Town home to win by 3 wickets.

Skipper K Patel spoke after the game: It is good to be back winning after last couple of weeks. Very proud of the boys the way they stuck out in the field with the weather. R Aggarwal once again was superb with the bat and credit to Gairola taking us home to win the game.
