Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Wheathampstead on Sat 10 Jun 2023 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report On a very hot sunny day Town hosted Wheathampstead CC. But as always Loomba lost the toss and Town were asked to bowl first in 30C heat.

However opening the bowling again in Kyle’s absence Vadgama rattled through Wheathamstead top order. There aren’t many bowlers who can hit top of off as consistently as Vadgama (Indian team needed him at the oval really). Daly also picked up a wicket at the other end and Wheathamstead were 28/4. Town were on top and were in the mood to wrap up the inning quickly. Anjum who’s arguably been the bowler of the season so far got couple of wickets and score was 86/8. However Town felt too bad and started offering free runs in the form of wides and somehow Wheathamstead ended their inning 134 all out. Pick of the bowler being Vadgama picking up 14/4 in his 8 overs.

Town came out to bat determined not to give them any points. And opening partnership of Aggarwal and Madhavan did just that. Wheathamstead also wanted to be competitive with Town bowlers to see who bowled most wides. Loose deliveries were being punished by Madhavan in particular who quickly raced to his first 50 of the season. It was an Inning which included shots all around the ground and great running between the wicket. Aggarwal departed after well played inning of 30 trying to finish the game quickly. Loomba however gave his wicket away trying to launch the ball to mars but failed in similar fashion to NASA. Vadgama stayed not out and finished the game in style. However Town’s batting inning hero was Madhavan who scored 62. Town winning by 7 wickets.

Skipper K Patel who was there to support the team spoke after the game: Very pleasing win after last weeks lost. Exceptional performance with the ball and bat. Yes we could have restricted them for under 100 as we gave them free runs but that’s something we will work on to make sure doesn’t happen again. WE will take each game as it comes and see where we end up.

Town will travel to Cockfosters next week looking to keep up the momentum with another win.
