Cockfosters v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 17 Jun 2023 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 5 wickets

Match report Town travelled away to Cockfosters, hoping that the pitch somewhat resembled the glorious photos on their website. After some deliberation, captain Loomba decided to field first on a used wicket and it soon paid dividends.
Opening bowlers Daly and Vadgama hit their straps quickly and left Cockfosters struggling at 10/2 after 10 overs. Cockfosters skipper and number 4 Holmes buckled down and along with the lower order rebuilt the innings, whilst Anjum, Mobeen and Halai gave them an examination on playing spin on a difficult wicket. Anjum in particular has really come to the fore this season and has threatened nearly every batsmen he has bowled against. After a strong rear-guard showing, Cockfosters managed to get to a very competitive total of 182, which if Town weren’t careful, would be very tricky to chase.

As they have done for a while now, openers Madhavan and Aggarwal started off like they were playing IPL cricket, motoring to 30/0 off 3 overs to set the chase underway. Madhavan in particular looked in supreme touch, hitting the Cockfosters bowlers to all parts, including a jaw dropping straight 6 down the ground to their quickest bowler. Unfortunately, he was run out just as he was getting settled. Aggarwal, the record breaker from the 2022 season, knew he had to bat deep and he did just that. Patiently waiting for the bad balls and building partnerships with the middle order to help get the chase back on track. Vadgama and Anjum looked in good touch and rotated the strike well in their respective partnerships. Patel coming in and sealing another not out with Aggarwal to bring the game home for Town comfortably with 10 overs to spare. Special mention to town skipper A Loomba who never gave up and continued trying to send the ball to mars but failed again!!

Not the free flowing destructive knock we’re accustomed to seeing from Rahul but it highlights the class of the man to be able to adapt his game in all situations and bring home the win. Another excellent team performance with the bat and ball, climbing to 2nd in the table and a big game against Tewin next week.

Skipper Loomba spoke after the game: From the first ball till last we completed dominated the game so it was very pleasing! Big game next week so we will prepare for it in the right way and look to keep this winning run going.
