Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Cockfosters on Sat 19 Aug 2023 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report Looking to secure promotion Town welcomed Cockfosters needing a win. Having lost the toss Town were asked to bat first.

N Madhavan who’s been in good form this season departed early leaving Town on 12/1. R Aggarwal having learnt from his mistakes played an inning which was very calm and measured. Together with Loomba partnership started building slowly. Heavy outfield meant boundaries were hard to come by so lot of running was needed. Aggarwal and Loomba put on 68 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket before Loomba departed trying to up the run rate. Aggarwal who’s inning deserved a 50 departed after a fine inning of 47. Town were 91/3 in 26 overs. Vadgama and Gairola got in the act quickly and built 42 runs partnership before Vadgama departed. Town skipper promoted himself to bat at 6 trying to take advantage of spinners but he too fell cheaply. Town were 140/6 in 35 overs at that stage and that became 143/6 when Gairola departed. Last week’s heroes Burt and Anjum looked to carry on their good form and built 28 runs partnership to give Town some momentum. When Anjum got out score was 171/7 after 43 overs. That was the last wicket to fall as Burt and M Patel finished the inning with 32* and 17*. Burt again looked in superb form and M Patel continuing to add to his batting average with another not out. Town finished their inning on 215/7 from their 50 overs.

Town were very confident of defending the total with slow outfield however things started badly. J Daly bowled with great control not giving anything to Cockfosters batters. However, Lawrence continued from last week and struggled to keep the pressure on. Cockfosters raced to 86 in 17 overs when they lost their first wicket. Shambolic fielding effort meant Town struggled to out any pressure. Misfields and drop catches were the only highlight of Town bowling. Vadgama took couple of wickets but Cockfosters comfortably won the game with 6 wickets and 7 overs spare.

Skipper Patel after the game: It was a day where we let ourselves down in the field however, destiny is still in our own hands and 2 wins from last remaining 2 games still gets us promotion.

Town will travel to Tewin knowing only a win will keep them alive for promotion!
