Northwood Town Cricket Club Sunday XI v Boxmoor CC on Sun 21 May 2023 at 1:30pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won MOTM; Ibbad for scoring his maiden 50*

Match report NTCC's Sunday XI won the game last week against Kensington CC with a great bowling performance so Town looked to continue that form over today and oh boy did they do that! Town turned up to the grounds with jobs to do on a slightly cooler, windier day, ready to receive Boxmoor CC. We play them every year and whilst it's usually a close affair, they always have the edge over us so Town were really eager to change that today.

Today was an especially important day for Town as we welcomed young Aarya Puwar to the side officially, making his debut for the club! Well done Aarya!

After a quick toss with the opposition skipper, discussing wides, colts bowling spells and other extras, Town won the toss and chose to bowl, both sides getting their way as Town sent Boxmoor out to set a total. Opening the bowling for Town and spearheading the bowling for Town was Vivek Mohan with his sling like action and Stanley, who is still phasing into plying form as he returns from injury. Nothing says great injury recovery like opening the bowling on a Sunday friendly game!

Taking the new ball and claiming he was nervous, Vivek kickstarted the game for us and initially, got the ball moving in both directions, confusing the batsmen, Harry (who was keeping) and himself. On the third delivery of the over, Vivek bowled a beautiful delivery outside off that seamed in as soon as it pitched, crashing into the opening batsman's stumps and dismissing him for a duck. Celebrations then proceeded as Vivek claimed to be trying to bowl an outswinger and instead inswinging it straight into the stumps. Replacing the opening batsman for the opposition team was the skipper, who came in and was off the mark with a quick single, putting the other opener on strike. Vivek then delivered a fantastic ball outside off to encourage the drive, picking up a nick from the other opening batsman and sending him back to the pavilion with a golden duck! Not a bad for Town after the first over, ending with 1 - 2 in the first over, especially since in almost every other situation, Town are usually in this position instead. In his second over, Vivek then bowled the opposition skipper as well on the first delivery, claiming his third wicket with just his 7th delivery and really putting pressure on the opposition already. Alongside Vivek, Stanley bowled really well, keeping lines tight and giving just 8 over his four overs which included a well-deserved maiden. After an 8 over spell, Mairaj and Krunal Puwar came in to slow things down and keep the run rate extremely low with a 14 over spell between them, conceding just 22 runs and 3 wickets between them as they looked to strangle the batsmen of runs and force them to play some risky shots. Vivek's third wicket brought in a fantastic youngster for the opposition team, and E.Shaw, a batsman that has haunted us in the past with half-centuries constantly year on year. However, Mr.Shaw was no match for Mairaj's tight lines and after 2 straight maidens, he was forced to cut a straight bal, nicking it straight to Keeran at slip who picked up the key wicket of E.Shaw, who won't be haunting us this year! As wickets continued to fall around young Kyle Manning (the youngster for Boxmoor who scored 49 not out), Kyle batted well to carry his team onward to a tally of 98 - 10 off 31 overs. The end of the innings saw Saad take 2 wickets, Krunal Puwar take 2 wickets, mairaj take 1, Vivek take 3 with his spell at the start and most importantly, our debutant Aarya Puwar taking his first adult wicket for Northwood Town Cricket Club so congratulations to him!

A happy Northwood Town came off pitch and after a 30 minute tea break, Town went out to chase down the score to have one over Boxmoor CC this year. Leading our batting today was Sam Devine, batting very well having developed a lot recently and Ibbad, youngster playing his debut season for Northwood Town cricket Club. The batting partnership of Sam and Ibbad was a story of two sides, both batsmen complimenting each other as they batted to chase the runs down. Sam started off very well, playing patiently and running hard between the wickets whilst Ibbad batted like a man possessed, dealing in only 4's and 6's for the 36 runs of his innings (Ibbad managed a strike rate of 350 at one point in his innings). Boxmoor's bowlers were no match for Ibbad's batting as he raced to 50 retired not out from just 24 deliveries. Having scored 50, Ibbad retired not out which opened the door for Harry to come in and take the game. Just as Harry came in, Sam unfortunately nicked one for the keeper to take, losing our only wicket in the chase. Replacing Sam and helping Harry bring home the game was Thinooach and together, both batsmen ran hard with Thinooach rotating the strike for Harry to rock back and play his pull shots and take Town home to 99 - 1 off 16.2 overs.

A well earned victory for the boys as Town put in a fantastic bowling, batting and fielding performance all round. A shout out to Ibbad for his maiden 50 not out and a shout out to Aarya for taking his first wicket for the club at just 14! Well done boys and onto the next game!
