Watford Town CC v Northwood Town Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 04 Jun 2023 at 12:30pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost

Match report Turning up to Watford Town, Northwood Town were ready to play their first T20 league game on a fiery hot day and a great track, courtesy of Watford Town Cricket Club. With the league needing us to play two games against Watford Town, we decided to play both in one day and get it over and done with. Captaining the team in absence of Keeran was Sajid and with the first game, won the toss and chose to bat first, trying to make use of the track early on.

Opening the batting for the team was Sajid and Harry, heading out to build a good start for Town's middle order to capitalise on. That however, did not go to plan as Sajid was bowled out on the second delivery of the game, walking down and missing the ball which clipped the top of middle stump and dismissed Sajid. Coming in at three was Thinooach who took a look at a few but being unable to get used to the conditions was eventually caught trying to get off the mark. On the other end, Harry had started well, rotating the strike and also punching a couple of deliveries for 4 before also getting caught trying to press on. Ibbad was the batsman to replace Thinooach and unfortunately was dismissed for an LBW first delivery, making a quick exit and introducing Saad who held the innings for Town. Rotating the strike and running hard, Saad kept the scoreboard ticking for Town so as to help us save face and as we reach 20 overs, nine wickets down, Stanley and Saad carried us to a score of 68.

A quick change over to save time and Town headed out to defend 69 with Keval opening the bowling with Abhay but with both openers unable to get the breakthrough needed, Watford Town CC scored a quick 37 off 6 overs. Krunal Puwar coming in and he took a wicket whilst Stanley on the other end came in and also took a wicket, dismissing the openers. However, Watford Town's third and fourth batters soon came in and finished the game off, chasing the total in 10 overs and giving Watford Town the first victory.

After a half hour tea break in the warm weather, Town came out and were sent out to bowl this time, attempting to keep the good opposition to a reasonable total. Opening the bowling for Town this time around was Sajid and Keval, Sajid starting well and giving just 7 off his two overs whilst Keval went for a slightly expensive 35 in his 4. First change and replacing Sajid was Abhay who came in and took 2 wickets in 2 overs conceding just 19 in his two overs. Bowling with Abhay was Ibbad who bowled okay, giving a few too many runs maybe but otherwise quite efficient, going for 27 off his 4. Krunal Puwar came in to wrap the innings up with Stanley with KP taking 2 wickets off his 4 and Stanley filling the rest of the overs up for Town as Watford Town cruised to a score of 147 in their 20.

A quick drinks/rest break and Town headed out to chase down the 147 total set for them with Harry and Ibbad opening the chase for Town. Harry again looked very solid, giving Town a good start with some cracking punches and drives for 4 whilst Ibbad started well with a brilliant pull shot before unfortunately getting caught on his pad for an LBW. Saad came in to replace his older brother rotating and running hard to give the strike to Harry. After a few good overs, Harry soon was bowled, trying to pull a delivery that kept slightly low and toppling his stumps as he was dismissed for an excellent 15. Replacing Harry was Thinooach who came in and look very solid as well, playing a couple of good flicks and punches for 4. Saad and Thinooach looked good together but a mishap with running led to Saad's dismissal as run out, introducing Sajid to the crease. Both left handers played well for a while, steadying the innings till Thinooach was catch trying to pick up the run-rate and that introduced Tushar to the crease. The slow but gradual fall of wickets meant Town's run-rate slowed down but the sensible batting between Sajid, Mohammed and Tushar meant Town ended the innings at 89 - 5 off their 20, not close to the target but also not throwing their wickets away in an attempt to chase a very good total.

A great performance from the lads, this has been our first loss in a while but we bounce back next week against Globe Trotters CC!
