Northwood Town Cricket Club Sunday XI v Ruislip cc on Sun 09 Jul 2023 at 1:00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won MOTM: Ravi with 60* and Meet with 4 - 10!

Match report Turning up on a sunny day, Town arrived and tossed up with their local neighbors, Ruislip CC, winning the toss and electing to bat first! Opening the batting for Town was Ravi and Ajay, both looking solid and giving Town a patient but wicket-less start to the innings, rotating the strike and seeing off the opening spell from the opening bowlers who were causing some trouble with the new ball. Ajay had started to pick the innings up with some shots before he was unfortunately bowled with one that kept low, testing the new bails and knocking Ajay over for a well-earned 20. Coming in at 3 was Aarya, who started off nervously, receiving sledging from the opposition who for some reason, failed to recognise how young Aarya really was! This was however of no concern to Aarya who put his head down and silenced the field for a few minutes with some great strokes, hitting two boundaries and playing his shots, nailing a few good deliveries that would have been boundaries on another day. Aarya was soon caught out going over the top of the fielders against a spinner and his great innings ended, bringing in some good injection of energy to the scoreboard. Ishaan, Rishi's son, entered the crease and looked very solid, technically sound and calling well with Ravi. After a few dot deliveries, Ishaan let the field and the dot deliveries get to him and he was caught trying to nail a delivery, ending his innings as well. Coming in to replace Ishaan was Saad, who played his role well in stabilising the innings a little and rotating the strike for Town, giving Ravi the strike to take control of the innings and just keep ticking the scoreboard. Both Ravi and Saad had a great partnership, batting well, rotating and Ravi had started to accelerate his scoring, reaching his maiden 50 in Sunday games this year and continuing to bat till 60 not out when he then retired to allow the lower order to come in and pick the run rate up. As Ravi retired, Ibbad came in and looked to go big, hitting a 6 off his first delivering and immediately causing a panic within the Ruislip team. He then rotated the strike with his brother, keeping the scoreboard running before getting bowled trying to continue with his big cricket, ending on a quickfire 14. Keeran came in to replace Ibbad and continue to pick the score up and he looked really solid initially, making the ruislip team regret their close field as he drove back over the bowlers head for four and then flicking a delivery to deep midwicket for four. However, disaster then struck as Keeran was run out with Saad hitting a delivery back towards the bowler, who stuck a hand out and directed the ball onto the stumps unintentionally, running Keeran out and continuing his bad run of form (and his run of finding the silliest ways to be dismissed). Town's next couple of batsmen worked with Saad and each other to carry Town over to a great score of 190 in 40 overs, held together with a fantastic innings from Ravi and Saad!

A quick tea break and Town were keen to get out on the field with Ibbad opening the bowling and Meet taking the second over, not usually his bowling role but something he took in stride. Ibbad and Meet started off well with Meet taking a wicket off his second wicket, bowling the batsman and breaking the brand new bails bought by Sajid! The pair Ibbad and Meet bowled really well together in their first spell with both bowlers dismissing the top 7 batsmen, Meet taking a well earned 4 - 10 runs in his five overs and giving Town the start they had wanted! Coming in as first change was Amit and Mairaj, both who started well and took early wickets. Mairaj's loopy flight worked well initially, taking an early bowled but soon was picked up and dispatched by Ruislip's number 5, forcing Mairaj's spell to end early and introduce Abdullah to the crease. Amit on the other end was bowling quite well, keeping things simple and took two wickets, bowling the first wicket and claiming an LBW for the second whilst Abdullah came in and claimed his first wicket and the last of Ruislip's wickets in his second over, finishing the game off for Town within just 19 overs.

A great win for the boys, coming from a strong batting performance and a well rounded bowling performance. Onto next week!
