On Sunday 29th June 2025, the club was honoured to host a Wealdstone FC Supporters XI - skippered by our former 2s captain Adam Hills - to play in a 30/30 against an invitational NTCC side full of old boys and dubious long-serving club characters who’ve been unable to leave due to what can only be a rare form of Stockholm Syndrome.

It was a hugely enjoyable day played in great spirit… and also the scene of the Stones delivering a cricketing lesson to the Town!

NTCC skipper Sumeet Khetia won the toss and chose to bat, which was probably where Town peaked - unless post-match burger consumption is included. An awesome four-wicket new ball spell by Freddie Randall reduced Town to 44/6 at the 15 over mark - with only Rob Fanner (27) providing resistance.

Things were so desperate that Ben Rawson-Jones managed to negotiate a last man stand deal for NTCC. If only ‘Boris’ was as effective in his Brexit negotiations. Rumours soon began to circulate that Veer’s dog was padding up as an unlikely saviour. 

A jug-dodging lower order rescue act from Akshay Loomba (48) propelled Town to the dizzy heights of 115 all out. Adam Hills was left stranded on a hat-trick with wickets from the last two deliveries of the innings, which of course was part of Town’s masterplan to lure him back to Chestnut Avenue for another bowl (this time for us!) before too long.

Could this game turn into one of those low run chase thrillers? In a word, no. Wealdstone came out with all stones blazing as they raced to 40-0 after just six overs. The introduction of Veer into the attack temporarily slowed the run rate down and wickets started to fall, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the visitors from cruising to a six-wicket walloping of NTCC after just 21.3 overs. Very well played indeed!

Huge thanks to Adam Hills for approaching us about this fixture and making sure it all came together so well - and a massive thanks to all the Wealdstone players and supporters for coming down and being so awesome. A rematch has provisionally been agreed - and a winter boot camp for Town players will be mandatory to help make us more competitive next time! 

Thanks to everyone from NTCC who helped make this day happen - especially Abs (with help from JB) for putting on such a fantastic BBQ and to Adam Shaw and Kunal Patel for running the bar throughout the day. A top effort to help create such an enjoyable day that was a reminder of why life at Northwood Town CC can be so rewarding.
