Town lose opening friendly

19 Apr 2010

NORTHWOOD TOWN began the 2010 season with a 31 run defeat at the hands of Old Citizens.

Fielding an experimental side, Town fielded first but were ultimately pegged back by a fourth wicket partnership of 105 as the visitors declared on 212-4. Debutant Mo Abassi took 2-32 for Town.

In reply, the hosts began well with Scott Walker (39) and newcomer Glenn Hodges (33) opening up with a partnership of 61. A collapse was soon to ensue but captain for the day Michael Lister stepped up to start the season in style, scoring five sixes during an impressive innings of 63. However, this was not enough as Town were eventually dismissed for 181.

Town skipper Lister was encouraged by the performance:

"It was good to get out and have a game in excellent conditions. We were able to have a look at a number of our new players and the game was played with a high level of energy and enthusiasm."

*Town's sunday game against Hillingdon Manor was cancelled due to the opposition having players stranded abroad.
