Stevenage II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 1.00 pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
RICHARD Robbins hit a fine unbeaten 73 as Northwood Town forced a draw against Stevenage on Saturday.
Losing the toss, Town were asked to field and responded well with good spirit as the hosts were made to scrap for every run. Bushnell took 2-19 despite a recurrence of his hamstring injury, whilst Dom Whyley put in an excellent shift taking 4-37 off 10 overs. The hosts looked in all sorts of trouble at 136-7 but they managed to rally and made it to 181-8 off their allocation of overs. Jack Daly took a league debut wicket for Town, taking 1-24 whilst Veer Vadagama produced an industrious spell of spin, taking 1-49 off 19 hard worked overs.
In reply, Town started poorly falling to 47-4. However, Robbins and Jim Cotton (22) knuckled down and shared a partnership of 58 to produce a competitive platform for Town. Nevertheless, the visitors were soon concentrating on survival rather than victory as they collapsed to 114-8. It was left to Robbins and Whyley to show some backbone and force the draw as Town finished on 121-9.
Skipper Bushnell was philospohical with the result:
"We showed spirit in the field and ultimately did well to force a draw. It was a difficult wicket to play on but Richard in particular produced an excellent innings and it was satisfying to prevent defeat whereas in previous years we may well have laid down and lost"
