London Colney v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 1.00 pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 87 runs
Match report
NORTHWOOD TOWN picked up their second consecutive league victory as a key innings from Michael Lister and a five wicket haul from the returning Johannes Van Ee secured 30 points.
Losing the toss, Town were asked to bat and whilst Glenn Hodges (17) and Scott Walker (15) made a start, the visitors couldnt command control as they had done a week earlier. Indeed, at 47-4, the alarm bells were ringing, but Lister and Jim Cotton stepped forward to steady the ship.
Cotton provided his usual reliable resistance, keeping one end safe which allowed Lister to play the more expansive shots. The pair put on a critical fifth wicket partnership of 77 to manoevere Town into an attacking position. Once Cotton (13) was finally dismissed, Akshay Loomba (10) and Van Ee (21) provided support to Lister before both being stumped. However, it was Lister who had been the mainstay of the innings, providing guile and style to score a fine and crucial 75. This allowed Town to end their innings on 202-9.
David Bushnell (3-24) and Richard Doling (2-38) were once again to show their bowling prowess for Town as they tore into the Colney batsmen from the start. Doling took a brilliant caught and bowled off the Colney opener to set the tone for a determined Town.
The hosts fell to 34-5 before recovering briefly. However, Town had a new option to call upon as Van Ee, playing his first game of the season following his return from Plymouth, took the ball and ripped the heart out of the middle order. Bowling with great control, Van Ee took 5-11 off seven overs as the hosts finally collapsed to 115 all out.
