Luton Town & Indians v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 03 Jul 2010 at 1.00 pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
After losing the toss the Town were asked to bat first against Luton Town and Indians and against a disciplined bowling attack continued to struggle on the batting front. Apart from Ali Chaudry returning to the side who top scored with a great innings of 39 no one else reached double figures in the middle order and after 25 overs the Town were languishing on 60 for 8. Mo Abassi then joined skipper Dave Harding and with a bit of fortune on several occassions a 9 wicket partnership of 38 gave the Town a little hope before Harding was out for 11 and the innnings ended shortly after on 104 with Abassi not out on 19 after great application in the testing circumstances.Whilst the pitch was prone to inconsistent bounce on many occasions the fact that all the top 8 batsman were bowled reflected the sad story that the Towns batting, with the exception of Chaudry, on the day wasn't up to the recent standard.
To achieve a win the Town needed to make early inroads against their opponents when bowling but unfortunately this wasn’t to be. The Town attack again lacked consistentcy and the need for line and length was sadly lacking by all bowlers albeit Taz Katira in his new spinning role again impressed in his short spell being prepared once again to use flight to test the batsman out. Town did pick up 3 wickets but the result was a foregone conclusions despite the heroics once again of Neil Cheesewright behind the stumps.
