Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Cockfosters III on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 1.00 pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 32 runs

Match report The first taste of victory for the season was finally achieved for Town with a 32 run win over Cockfosters on saturday.

On being asked to bat on a hot afternoon Town soon lost Sumeet Khetia and Rao Ganisetti. The dismissal of Shaun O’ Neill then led to the introduction of Pradip (Laxman) Pandey who batted with great intelligence and with Rukshan Senanyaka put together a fine partnership of 56 until Senanyaka was out for 29.

Ravi Kotecha came to the wicket for his first game of the season for the second team and, despite nursing a bad shoulder, played some fine shots.

Pandey was dismissed for a fine 31 to leave Town 135-6 after 43 overs. Kotecha was finally out for 26 which then led to an entertaining ninth wicket partnership of 27 between Mo Abbasi (11*) and Havan Patel (11) which meant Town finished on an encouraging 183-9.
Skipper Dave Harding opened the bowling with Mo Abbasi and both picked up early wickets to leave Cockfosters stuttering.
There followed a short period of play when the Town failed to take some chances until Abbasi produced an inspired spell of bowling to claim another three wickets, and five in total, removing the Cockfosters middle order.

O'Neill then entered the attack with his leg spin and alongside Viraj Manek bowled some fine balls and soon picked up a wicket which led to the entry of White for the opposition who, with some fine attacking batting, started to build a comeback for the visitors

The skipper introduced Ganisetti to bowl his off breaks and this inspired change brought dividends when with his third ball he claimed the dangerous White. With the hint of victory in their sights Town's nerves were not helped by several missed opportunities, but eventually victory was achieved when Cockfosters had to close their innings at 151 when the unfortunate Babwah was forced to retire hurt.

The jubilant scenes that greeted this win was a reflection of the great spirit that has persisted throughout the whole season amongst the players in difficult times and was richly deserved. This was made even sweeter when the news of the first team win filtered through.
