Match report Northwood Town narrowly lost in a thrilling encounter at Chestnut Avenue on Sunday as they nearly pulled off a great win despite posting a sub par score when batting first. The visitors won the toss and elected to field which was a decision that looked as though it may backfire when opener Kyle Matthews capitalised on some wayward bowling from the visiting attack. Matthews raced his way to a quick fire 52 before being caught as slip and he was ably supported by Rukshan Senanayaka (23) and Adam Hills (24) and Town notched up three figures with the loss of 4 wickets. However no-one the middle and lower order were able to take the score on and despite a couple of late hefty blows from Jack Daly, Town were dismissed for a total of 156. Visiting skipper Nathan Wilds took 5 wickets.

In reply, Town’s all round fielding effort was superb as opening spells from Shaun O’Neill and Daly kept the run rate down. But it was the introduction of young spinner Veer Vadgama that turned the game as he produced an outstanding spell of bowling with figures of 10-2-16-4. He was supported by Akshay Loomba who picked up 2/38 and the visitors collapsed to 85/5. With the overs running out and wickets falling as regular intervals it was all set up for a tense finale. Shaun O’Neill played a key part as he assisted a run-out and came back to pick up the 9th wicket for Town with the visitors still needing 12 runs. The chance came for Town as Kyle Matthews found the outside edge of the number 11 but Akshay Loomba, who had an otherwise outstanding day in the field, was unable to hold onto the chance at gully. Inevitably, it was skipper Wilds who hit the winning runs as the Chipperfield Clarendon got home with three balls to spare.
