Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Potters Bar IV on Sat 14 May 2011 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 65 runs

Match report It was the Sumeet Khetia Show at Chestnut Avenue on Saturday as the 2's hosted Potters Bar IV.

Town won the toss and put Potters Bar into bat first on a wicket that certainly 'had a bit in it.' With the oldest opening bowling attack in the league in action again from the start, Messrs. Harding and Furmenger didn't quite offer the same zip as with the previous week. The runs came at an easy rate to the top order batsmen and it was clear that a Town bowler had to step up to the mark to stem the flow.

That flow was then certainly stemmed by an inspired spell of bowling from the Botham-esque Khetia. If only Phil Carter was on show at Chestnut Avenue to witness a spell that returned figures of 6 - 76 off 16 overs! The ball zipped, swung, seemed and bamboozled the Potters Batsmen. It lifted spirits in the field and led to 3 excellent, Town catches - to Andy Burt, Ed Johnson & the evergreen Mike Filder. However, efforts felt in vain in the end, as Town failed to bowl out the opposition and Potters Bar declared on 226-9 off 48 overs.

The total always looked an imposing figure, and after a steady opening partnership of Johnson and Harding, the Towns batting was punctuated by some poor contributions. That said, Pradip Pandey continued his excellent form with a well structured 30, Mike Fidler swung the willow for a flamboyant 24 and the 'Furminator' Neal Furmenger, flailed the bat for a quick fire 15 not out. But it was again, the Botham-esque Khetia, that grabbed the innings by the scruff of the neck and blasted the score along to a final total of 161 all out. It capped a brilliant game for the vice captain Khetia notching up 40 runs in the process and to record some valuable batting points to the Town cause.

With a 65 run deficit, Town Skipper Neil Cheesewright conceded that the better team had won a game that was played in great spirits. Potters Bar will go on to challenge and will certainly be there or thereabouts at the business end of the league come the end of the season, and it is now down to the players of the Town Twooo's to push on and chalk up the seasons first win sooner rather than later.
