Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Whittington CC on Sat 27 Aug 2011 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
On a day where the clouds would open up at any given moment we welcomed Whittington CC to our weather resistant astro turf pitch. With the start delayed due to a downpour and further downpours threatening, it was decided we wanted to bat first. Luckily we won the toss and decided to bat.
Town got off to a bad start, losing Havan in the first over to a bowler who most other batsmen also struggled to play against with his accurate bowling and wind assisted swing. Taz and Amit then formed a good partnership which looked threatening, they steadied the ship, and kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely with Amit playing some excellent uncharacteristic shots. Soon after Amit was bowled out which sparked a mini batting line collapse with Taz and Jon soon losing their wickets. Mihir came to the crease and played aggressively to move the scoreboard on ably supported by Rajul. However Whittington Bowler JT soon stuck again. After this the 3’s batting lineup did not offer much more with only Rajul going on to top score with 26. Most players lost their wickets due to poor shot selection, on another day luck may have played a part where bad shot selection may have just lead to a dot ball, but on this day luck just didn’t seem to be on our side and far too many batsmen were bowled out. Town were all out for 91.
As we walked of for tea the heavens opened up again, perfect timing. The start of Whittingtons innings was slightly delayed due to rain. Meeth and Taz opened up the bowling for town, they bowled really well with little brother showing older brother how it should be done, however I don’t know how they were able to start their run up on grass, run through mud, then a puddle and then onto astro turf to still bowl a decent ball – all effects of the heavy rain at Tea. Soon after the heaven opened up again, this time hoping it doesn’t stop as Whittington were well on the way to win the game. However within 15 minutes we were back on the pitch. The Mexican they all know as Praxy was introduced to the bowling, and soon Whittington lost their first wicket with Meeth taking an excellent catch. This then created a buzz and town were soon pushing for more wickets. Soon after the Mexican got his second wicket. Dileep was introduced to the bowling lineup and the flight of his bowling was difficult to pick with him soon rewarded with bowling out Whittingtons best batsman. A couple more bowling changes were made, to give everyone a chance at bowling, unfortunately they didn’t pay off, however Havan found his form from back in the day and hopefully we can bowl him in the games going forward.
Whittington went on to win the game easily. However there were lots of positives to take away from the game, not a single 3’s player let Whittington take the game away for nothing, everyone put in 100% with their fielding and bowling up until the game was lost. Mitesh Parmer also showed his dedication to the 3’s by travelling in to watch the 3’s play on a day where most people would not leave their homes – we salute you for your support. The energy in the team was high and i hope we continue with this energy into the next friendly where I hope the 3’s put on a batting show of our strengths and look to finish the season on a high.
Town’s friendly man of the match award goes to Meeth for his all-round excellent performance and attitude both on and off the field, bowled superbly – unfortunately the bowling figures do not paint the correct picture, showed excellent glimpses of the batting he is capable off and took an amazing catch.
