Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Luton Town & Indians II on Sat 01 Sep 2012 at 12.30pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won By 85 runs

Match report Northwood Town pulled off a remarkable win to ensure survival in Division four before the final game of the season and rocking the promotion prospects of visitors Luton Town and Indians.

Missing regulars, including skipper and opening bowler David Bushnell and his opening partner Richard Doling, the hosts knew they faced an uphill battle before a ball was bowled.
Losing the toss, skipper Michael Lister was determined that his team should put in a batting display that would at least get points on the board and give the visitors a game of it.
Akshay Loomba (19) started steadily but it was Kyle Lawrence who really took the game to Luton with some hefty blows. Lawrence (59) and veteran Phil Carter (23) put Town in control with a measured partnership of 89 as the hosts climbed to 180-5 with little trouble. The invitable mini-collapse ensued as Town chased runs but Veer Vadgama (30) ensured the maximum 10 batting points as the hosts finished their innings on 212-9.
Facing a team in a promotion position and missing your front-line bowlers is not an ideal scenario and Luton looked to be cruising in their chase as they reached 70 without loss or indeed with seemingly little trouble. However, neither they nor Town could have forseen what would happen next.Dom Whyley took the ball and bowled what can only be described as a sensational spell of clean
accurate bowling. He rattled the visitors with some quick wickets, including a fantastic caught and bowled effort, and suddenly Luton lost all discipline as they conceded wicket after wicket. Town missed some chances but were not going to allow this advantage to slip and Whyley amazingly notched seven wickets for just 29 runs in 12.3 overs. At the other end Veer Vadgama took 3-57 as the beleaguered visitors crashed to 127 all out.
Town's efforts were rewarded when news came through that other results had meant they can go into the last game of the season assured of survival. No doubt though the team will reflect that once again they should never have found themselves in this position throughout the season.

For now, Town with one promotion secured and potential of two more to come, will enjoy the moment and look to build again for next season.
