Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Kings Langley IV on Sat 09 Jun 2012 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 2 Wickets

Match report June 09th 2012, league match number five for the Mighty 3s. Match played at home against Kings Langely IV (KL4).

KL4 won the toss and elected to bat. Town’s M.Parmar (12ovrs, 1mdn, 27runs, 1wkts) and M.Katira (9ovrs, 2mdns, 25runs, 1wkts) provided their usual controlled and consistent spell of quality bowling. Together they had taken 2 wickets for just 52runs off 21 overs. P.Tailor (6ovrs, 1mdns, 21runs, 3wkts) has developed a rather nice habit of taking quick wickets of late and today was no different, he took 3 quick wickets to add to KL4s’ woes. With KL4 on 56 for 5wkts, S.Khetia (5ovrs, 0mdns, 27runs, 0wkts) provided some solid bowling attack against KL4 best batsman, S.Mahmood (42runs), and was extremely unlucky not to pick up a few wickets. M.Vadgama (5ovrs, 2mdn, 6runs, 0wkts) delivered a very tidy spell and R.Kotcha’s (8ovrs, 2mdn, 8runs, 4wkts) outstanding spell dismissed KL4 for a total of 117 of 46ovrs.

Chasing a target of 118 runs Town needed a run rate of 2.68runs an over. Town were confident. However, KL4’s J.Gibbs made an early break through and dismissed Town’s J.Bentvelzen(3) with just 4 runs on the board and was closely followed by S.Thakrar(5). A.Firfire (21, 2x4s) and R.Patel (16, 3x4) steadied the ship with slow but sure progress towards the target. After the 3rd and 4th wickets had fallen S.Khetia, H.Patel, and M.Vadgama contributed a further 33runs towards the run chase, but Town were leaking wickets. What really made KL4’s day was dismissing M.Parmar for zero. It was sweet revenge for KL4’s, as in the 2011 season their arch enemy M.Parmar had taken 7 KL4 wickets for just 27 runs. With the score on 82 for 8 the responsibility fell on R.Kotecha (39 not out, 1x6, 6x4s) and M.Katira (5 not out, 1x4s) shoulders who saw Town home for a great win. R.Kotecha provided a perfect exemplar of a mature and perfectly executed innings. M.Katira demonstrated outstanding resilience once again.

Next stop Knebworth Park VI for the Mighty 3s.
