Kings Langley v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 02 May 2009 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
TOWN'S 1st eleven were in devastating form as they destroyed Kings Langley with a comprehensive nine wicket victory.
Losing the toss, Raj Ahluwalia's team were asked to field and the hosts seemed set to take a stodgy approach and ensure wickets were kept at a premium. Brendan Dwywer (2-20) enjoyed his return to the club with a typical attacking spell of bowling which was to wear the batsmen down. His hard work created the opening for Richard Doling to step forward and destroy a lower order that had been put under pressure from the earlier dogged approach of the hosts. From 70-3, Doling and Kazim Naqvi sliced through the batsmen, reducing them to tatters and, backed up by some excellent fielding, the two dismissed Kings for 105. Doling captured 5-17 with Naqvi picking up 3-16.
In reply, Ahluwalia opened with himself and league debutant Brendan Heaney. The skipper was an early casualty but from there on in Town never looked back. Heaney was happy to play the patient role as Rohan Lee took on the bowling attack. Both looked more than comfortable as Lee remained unbeaten to the end on 65 not out whilst Heaney played more than a supporting role with 35 not out. The pair put on 100 for the second wicket as the visitors cruised home for the loss of just one wicket in 22 overs.
Ahluwalia was understandably elated with the result and the manner of the victory:
"We were excellent in all aspects of the game today. We approached the game in a positive mind and our bowling and batting performances were exceptional. Hopefully this will be a the start of a good campaign."
