Knebworth Park II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 16 May 2009 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets
Match report
NORTHWOOD TOWN suffered a comprehensive defeat away at Knebworth Park in a game where they never really competed at all with an understrength side.
Winning the toss for the first time this season, Raj Ahluwalia elected to bat and Town started well enough reaching 35 without loss off nine overs. However, once Ahluwalia was dismissed the hosts brought on Richard Jerome, a spinner who has represented Herts for many years and caused Town plenty of problems over the last few seasons.
Once again he managed to outfox the Town batsmen and the visitors were soon in a deep rut at 58-4 off 28 overs. Another four wickets then went down for just 22 runs and whilst there was a late flurry, Town could only manage 115-9 off their 53 overs. This was never going to cause the hosts any problems and they took the patient approach to ease home for the loss of just one wicket, which Brendan Dwyer took for Town.
Ahluwalia was understandably despondent:
"It was a very poor performance and there are plenty of areas we need to improve on."
Clearly Town need to take stock and consider their preparation and attitude before each game. Two years ago Town were nearly relegated largely due to sloppy preparation - this was, on the whole eradicated last season and it is imperative that the old bad habits do not begin to creep back, otherwise Division Three cricket awaits.
