Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN once again produced an inept batting display which saw them fall by four wickets to Welwyn Garden City.

Winning the toss, Raj Ahluwalia elected to bat and opened himself up with Brendan Heaney. The pair decided to adopt a patient approach and built a solid partnership of 90 for the first wicket. Heaney had carved out 57, Ahluwalia supporting him with 32. However, with twenty overs remaining it was vital that the visitors pushed on from here and increased the run rate. The pressure intensified though and whilst Rohan Lee and Jamie Cotton - stepping up after good form in the second eleven - scored 19 each the rest of the batsmen floundered spectacularly and the anxiety for runs soon told as Town collapsed to just 149 all out.

The low score was never likely to be enough although once again Dave Bushnell showed impressive form with the ball. A vital catch went down early on which would have snared the bastman who would be left unbeaten on 80, but Town did make early inroads. At 47-3 off 17 overs, the hosts were struggling for momentum although they would have been concious of their low target they were chasing. Dominic Whyley bowled well and deserved more than his one wicket whilst Richard Doling also claimed a victim. At 100-5 the game could have been in the balance but Welwyn were to ease home for the loss of just one more wicket. Bushnell had easily been the pick of the Town's bowlers as he took 4-61 off 19.1 overs.

Skipper Ahluwalia was unimpressed with the batting performance:
"We put ourselves in a decent enough position but there are not enough of us sharing in the runs. Our bowling display was fair but the target was never likely to be enough"
