Match report TOWN'S 2nd X1 suffered a comprehensive eight wicket defeat against Flamstead in a high scoring game at Chestnut Avenue.

Dave Harding became the third captain of the season and on winning the toss he elected to bat. Phil Carter recovering remarkably well from his broken back (!?) opened up with 42 but it was the in form Alan Armitage and Shaun O'Neill who were to produce a tremendous partnership of 112 and put Town in pole position. Armitage crashed 66 (2x6, 11x4) whilst O'Neill - usually known for his bowling prowess rather than his batting expertise - carved out an excellent 71 (1x6, 10x4). Neal Furmenger, another member of the crocked crew, came in to hit a cameo 16 and Harding was able to declare on what looked a useful 227-8 off 52 overs.

Flamstead were in no mood to hang about and took great joy in carting Town's woeful bowling all over the park. Harding attempted to rotate his attack but there was little improvement and whilst O'Neill and Khetia took a wicket each, the visitors raced home in just 36.5 overs.

Harding showed his displeasure at the after match conference:
"In my 80 years at the club that is probably one of the worst bowling displays I have seen. Having got ourselves in a good position with the bat we should have done much better with the ball but it wasn't to be."
