Northchurch v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 16 Aug 2008 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 145 runs

Match report DAVE BUSHNELL scored his maiden league century as NORTHWOOD TOWN recorded a superb 151 victory over a Northchurch side that hadn't lost in the league for almost two months. Bushnell, renowned for his opening bowling rather than batting prowess, carved out a magnificent 106 as Town produced some more top level cricket to totally outplay the opposition. The result was even more gratifying as Town had decided to field an experimental team against a side that was at full strength.

Winning the toss, Raj Ahluwalia elected to bat but after being dismissed himself early on he had to sit back and watch his batsmen take full control of the game. Bushnell and Rohan Lee shared a steady but clinical second wicket partnership as the pair put on 160 to give Town some real momentum on an inconsistent surface. Lee playing in his usual consistent fashion scored a solid 67 but was eventually dismissed as he tried to speed up the tempo of the game as overs began to run out. Johanes Van Ee was then sent in to up the ante and he responded in typical aggressive fashion as he crashed an unbeaten 45 in just 25 balls. In the meantime Bushnell had played a classic oepners innings and reached his century with a six before being dismissed at the death - his 106 coming off 164 balls.

Town finished their innings on 234-5 and having dominated proceedings so far were confident of finishing the game off. However, Northchurch appeared to want to play for the draw so Town had to work hard to ensure victory was theirs.
The hosts had little answer to a bowling attack that is reaping regular rewards and whilst Bushnell was understandably running out of steam, his bowling partners did not allow Northchurch to settle for a moment. Van Ee bowled the middle stump out of the ground with his first ball and had the keyboard warrior jumping around as he went on to take 5-24. Not to be outdone, Richard Doling produced another tremendous bowling performance to take five himself, conceding just 20 runs, as Northchurch collapsed to a meagre 83 all out and leave Town delighted with the most comprehensive of victories despite having to overcome the ridges and bumps throughout the ground.

Town skipper Raj Ahluwalia was delighted with the manner of the peformance:
"It was a very confident display and we performed tremendously overall. Dave deserves huge credit for his knock - it's not often that a number 11 opens the batting and scores a century. Johanes and Richard bowled superbly and I was delighted that we were able to bring an experimental team over and still win so well."
