Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Welwyn Garden City V on Sat 08 Jun 2013 at 1 pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 4 Wickets
Match report
Town came up slightly short against in a fantastic contest against Welwyn Garden City 5s.
Having won the toss, skipper Khetia elected to bat. Initially town got off to a flier with Rajul Patel in particular scoring quick runs. The tide turned though as Town lost both openers and newcomer Kunal Patel to leave the score on 37-3.
Enter Rizvi and Doshi... The pair counter attacked brilliantly to motor the scoring along. Unfortunately, the dismissal of Rizvi to a rash shot set the tone for things to come. While the middle order forged ahead and supported Doshi well as he made 52, poor shot selection continued to blight the innings and Town eventually succumbed to 179 all out, criminally wasting 5 overs of batting time.
In response, Town were exceptional with the ball, pegging the WGC openers back with Parmar deservedly taking the wicket of Wells. Unfortunately for Town, the visitors too knew how to counter attack to devastating effect. With runs flowing freely the introduction of Bentvelzen turned the tide dismissing the excellent Peterkin (62) and Priolo (41).
As the visitors continued to push on, wickets continued to fall. Alas Town fell short though, with the tail eventually scampering through with 9 balls to spare.
Skipper Khetia remained upbeat after the game - "Our bowling and fielding was tremendous again, we just lacked a little batting discipline to put the game out of reach - 16 points gained is never a bad haul though."
