Match report Veer Vadgama produced one of the best spells of seam bowling ever seen at Northwood Town as he tore through the Luton Town batting line up to bring Northwood Town an unexpected victory by 22 runs.

After losing the toss and being put in to bat on a damp track, openers Akshay Loomba (16) and Michael Lister (19) worked hard to build a foundation as the new ball zipped around and popped off a length. After they both fell, the middle order struggled to assert itself until Andy Burt (18) and Aiden Lawrence (21) chipped in with useful knocks that pushed Town towards 3 figures. A late cameo from Mikhil Patel (15) took Town to a total of 103. Whilst knowing it was a low score, with the wicket still difficult to settle in on, Town felt that they had a chance if they bowled in the right areas.

Vadgama and Krunal Patel wasted no time in removing the opening batsmen and then a quite brilliant delivery from Vadgama nipped off the seam and castled the danger man Charles for 0. Tea was belatedly taken with Luton Town 26 for 3 and the game nicely poised. After tea, Luton Town came out with some confident strokes and a 48 partnership pushed the score along to 65 for 3. The Luton Town team clearly grew in confidence, with plenty of noise starting to come from the balcony as they sniffed victory. However confidence turned to reckless abandon as Luton Town threw away their good position with some outrageous shots to straight balls. The Luton Town team were finally silenced as Vadgama picked up four wickets in a single over - surely one of the best overs ever seen at Chestnut Avenue - to send the Northwood Town fielders and supporters delirious with excitement as a shock victory suddenly looked to be on the cards. Mikhil Patel (3 for 8 off 5 overs), who had played a brilliant support role to tie down the other end, deservedly took the final wicket with a big turning off break to bring home another 30 points for Northwood Town and to maintain the side's dominance over Luton Town in recent years.

Star performer Veer Vadgama finished with outstanding figures of 13.4 overs, 6 maidens and 6 wickets for just 18 runs and skipper Michael Lister was delighted to see such a fantastic bowling performance and another win, "Veer has been in outstanding form since his return from injury and particularly in recent weeks. He's a real asset to the club, and not only with his bowling - his attitude, composure under pressure and leadership sets a great example to the rest of the team. That's 3 wins out of 4 for us, and really we should have beaten Bushey, so things are looking up for the 1s and we will keeping pushing hard for more victories."

Northwood Town's 1s are at home again next Saturday (23 August) as they entertain Potters Bar in a must-win game for both sides.
