Hertford IV v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 09 Jul 2016 at 1pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Town arrived at Hertford on the back of a morale boosting win last week. Having won the toss, they elected to bat on a flat hard deck.

After the early loss of Ramawat, Town rebuilt steadily at first with Haji and Vanker. The runs soon began to flow easily though and soon enough the scoreboard was ticking along nicely at more than 5 an over.

In the 22nd over, both brought up their 50s soon after the 100 run partnership. But they were far from finished. The pair ran brilliantly between the wickets and combined with some text book drives, they amassed 180 runs for the 2nd wicket until Haji finally fell.

Although there was a collapse and a brief stagnation in the scoring, some late cameos from the tail sent Town onto 274-9 off their 53 overs, with young Jack Timms the pick of the bowlers taking 3.

In response, Town started with Malik and Parmar. Both were rewarded for some tight lines with 1 wicket apiece and it soon became apparent that the draw was the only option for Hertford.

After a brief rebuild there did appear to be signs of promise, but it was Malik who picked up 2 more quick wickets to once again set Hertford on the back foot.

Another rebuild for the home side began. Soon enough though, it looked like Hertford may be gearing up for an assault on the Town total, but a fine piece of bowling from Ramawat brought him the scalp of R Patel.

That was to be all she wrote though. Despite pressing for the win and Khetia rotating his bowlers, an outstanding display of batting from the Hertford youngsters saw them take the game to a comfortable draw. The excellent Timms finished on a fine 83 not out.

Khetia was more than happy with his players' efforts though - "Sometimes it just doesn't go your way. We didn't drop any chances, there weren't any bad calls and generally we did really well. You have to give credit to Hertford and especially the youngster Timms, I just hope he plays for their third team next year!!"
