Reed II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 08 Jul 2017 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
This week 1s travelled to Reed away looking to carry forward momentum after 2 wins on the bounce. It was a crucial game as only 4 points separated both sides on the table. On an absolute scorching day stand in skipper Krunal Patel won the toss and decided to bat first.
Looking at the pitch and outfield it was obvious Town had to post a very high competitive total but it started badly for them as Vadgama, Haji and Lawrence all went cheaply leaving them 45/3 in 15 overs. But then everybody witnessed a spectacular inning from Michael Lister who started dealing in boundaries and took the attack to Reed bowlers. He brought up his 50 when town were only on 76/3 showing he was the man who will help Town set the total of 250+. He was impressively supported by another Kilburn boy Burty who scored 28 and had partnership of 73 in just 14 overs with Lister. And just when it looked like we were on for a big total Burty departed to leave Town on 139/5. In came Maulin Patel who looked in fine touch from ball one as he flicked the first ball he faced for four over mid-wicket. Next 13 overs treated 30+ Reed villagers watching to a batting master class from Patel and Lister who piled on 84 in just 13 overs. This partnership saw Maulin Patel bring up his maiden 50 for Town 1s in 30 odd balls. What followed next was something of a rarity at Town as Lister flicked a ball towards midwicket and ran 3 to complete what was an outstanding 100. Jeremy Lister looking down on that inning would have been as happy and proud as all the Town boys were. Town declared eventually on 250/7 after 52 over with Lister ending the inning on 133*.
After the break Reed batsmen quickly settled in scoring at more than 4 an over to keep their side in the hunt for the chase. Lawrence and Maulin were unlucky as both had couple of close LBW shouts that didn’t go their way. At this stage Keval Shah picked up a knee injury which meant Town had to field with 10 men for the remainder of the game. Change of bowling saw Jack break the opening stand and bring Town back in the game as the run rate slowed down but Johnson who was lucky to survive 2 LBW shouts in Krunal Patel’s over went on to score 67 before being dismissed by Krunal Patel. But at this stage they were in comfortable position and kept up with required run rate. Although a brilliant run out from Maulin Patel and a wicket from Kyle Lawrence gave Town glimmer of hope Catt 65 and Robertson 24* saw Reed chase down the total in 44 overs with 6 wickets left.
K Pate spoke after the game: It was a day that started well for Town with an excellent batting effort led by Michael Lister and Maulin Patel. In the field it was always going to be a big ask to field with 10 men and a bowler short on a hot day with quick outfield. Overall it was an excellent effort from all the lads and if few decisions and catches had gone our way would have been a different story.
Town will host league leaders Hoddesdon next week with confidence as there were lot of positives to take away from this performance.
