Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Chorleywood II on Sat 02 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 79 runs

Match report Town won the toss on a gloriously warm day and decided to bat. With the weather deceiving Loomba’s judgement at the toss, the rain from the night before meant the pitch was still slightly damp and played very slow making it incredibly hard to time the new ball. The visitors made full use of this and made early inroads with Town really struggling and staring down the barrel at 19-3. After a brief partnership between Burt and Vadgama, the latter who played some fabulous shots whilst wickets fell around him and was judged LBW by a very dubious decision. Enter Kyle Lawrence, the out of form batsman who came into form in a matter of minutes. Despite the tough pitch conditions, Lawrence applied himself to the crease and batted patiently, waiting for the bad ball and put it away in style. Kotecha, continuing his fine form along with Lawrence looked to rebuild and with some contribution from the tail, Town finished on a 213 all out.

In response, Town knew they needed to restrict the flow of runs and take regular wickets to ensure the scoring rate became too high for Chorleywood and that is exactly what they did. Some good bowling from Chand and Veer early on kept the runs down but it was only until the introduction of Jack Daly did the game go from in the balance to Towns favour. Jack Daly bowled with immense precision, swinging the ball in, out and getting the cross seaming delivery to move off the pitch. With more than one delivery hitting top of off to dismiss the bemused Chorleywood batsman and almost securing a hat-trick, Daly’s skill was on another level. Picking up a match winning 6 wickets from his 10 overs and conceding just 29 runs, Jack ensured that the 9th and 10th wicket partnerships, frustratingly lasting 83 balls, was mere consolation for the visitors.

Loomba spoke after the game: ‘The boys fought really hard today despite getting ourselves in a tricky situation at the start. After winning 2 out of 3 games that we have played, we are looking a strong side this year but it is important we stay consistent if we want to be there or there abouts come the end of the season. We will take it one game at a time and the next challenge is Stevenage at home next week.’
