Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Northampton Exiles on Sat 23 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 110 Runs

Match report Town 1s took on Northampton Exiles at home looking to make it 4 wins straight and put the pressure on top two.

Town were missing top 2 run scorers from the last game but had their skipper returning for the game feeling fresh after a nice 10 day holiday getting massages in Thailand and it paid off dividends.

After Exiles won the toss bizarrely decided to field first which is exactly what Town wanted with hot weather and high temperature if they had won the toss. A Loomba and S Patel opened the batting and quickly started scoring runs freely. In particular Loomba who was playing shots all around the ground. We saw powerful cut shots as well, deft touches to guide the ball to third man boundary and even flicks shots off his legs to show Town he can score everywhere. Town lost S Patel and in came M Lister looking to continue from last week and started dealing in boundaries straight away quickly racing to 23 while at the other end Loomba got to his 50 at Town 86/1 in just 14 overs. At that point Town were looking at posting a big score as Loomba looked like going on to score a big score himself. Town lost M Lister trying to play one shot too many. Income Burt who’s been in fantastic form this season and with Loomba quickly added 43 runs before departing for 15 and straight after F Haji departed leaving town on 146/4 in 30 overs. It was all down to Loomba now to get Town to 300+ score in successive weeks and needed support from incoming K Lawrence to build a partnership. They delivered on that as A Loomba hit a beautiful lofted straight drive for four to bring up his 100. It was well appreciated by Town team mates on the balcony as KP started giving odds on A Loomba scoring double ton at just 3/1 showing how good that inning was and plenty of overs still left. It’s fair to say that since pre season tour of La Manga Loomba has looked like never getting out when he bats. He’s received lots criticism from lot of people over the last few years but this will go long way in shutting them up (for a while anyway). At the other end K Lawrence was playing some lovely cover drives and raced to his 50 as well. Loomba was on 145* when Exiles skipper dished out a juicy full toss which Loomba spanked straight into the sight screen to get to his 150 and also setting highest individual score for Town 1s in a league game. At this point Bet365 and KP suspended markets on him getting double ton to Lister’s disappointment. Lawrence departed for a fine 56 and partnership of 141 in just 19 overs leaving town on 285/5 in 48.3 overs and in danger of not making 300 as Loomba tired. VC K Patel promoted himself and started hitting (slogging)boundaries to quickly race to 23* in 8 balls and Town finished on 312/5 in 50 overs and A Loomba carried his bat with 175* and everyone including Exiles applauded one of the best inning you can ever hope to see. Skipper certainly led from the front as he reminded everyone at Town to never doubt his ability. What an inning it was!!!

A Burt made a lovely tea including homemade brownies (Which Town players were hoping wouldn’t have any after effects while fielding knowing Burt). Town took to the field looking to put early pressure on Exiles batsmen but they raced to 53 in just 9 overs when K Lawarence removed dangerous Amar. K Shah with extra motivation to showed Exiles exactly what they are missing by ripping through Exiles middle order. He bowled good line and lengths with control to frustrate Exiles and ended up with figures of 10-2-28-4 which was nothing short of man-of-the match performance. C Silva also continued his fine form with the bowl restricting Exiles with good economy while also picking up 3 wickets. There’s no way Town will let him retire any time soon the way he’s bowling. This game will live in the memory of many Town players for a long time for all the obvious reason but we weren’t done yet as A Burt came on to bowl and picked up his first wicket for Town 1s. Exiles were eventually bowled out for 202.

A Loomba wasn’t available for post match thoughts yet again so VC K Patel said: Today we’ve made history as we put on scores of 300+ 2 weeks straight which hasn’t been achieved before at Town. We also saw an inning of pure master class from Loomba with 175*. I can go on and on about this inning but to sum it up it was a phenomenal batting display from Loomba. K Shah and C Silva ripped through Exiles batting line up for an emphatic win.

Town will travel Baldock next week looking to make it 5 wins straight.
