Watford Town IV v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 05 May 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets

Match report On a warm and sunny day The Mighty 3s travelled to Watford Town for our first league game of the season in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter. 3s skipper J.B won the toss and decided to bowl first on tough track with a slow out field. Making their 3s debuts today were young Dominic Jones behind the stumps, who went on to keep superbly throughout the game alongside the even younger K.P, with neither of them looking out of place. Parmar and Gordhandas bowled well early on, keeping the run rate well under control but were both unlucky as a few chances were put down to remove Watford's openers cheaply as a partnership developed. Myring and Mapara also bowled well and kept it tight but unfortunately further catches were missed. It was spin in the form of Patel and Shaw that finally got the breakthroughs, both bowling with excellent control and asking questions of the batsmen. Parmar and Mapara retuned to pick up two wickets apiece as Watford scrambled their way to 143. After a very nice tea NTCC's openers both fell cheaply allowing Mapara (49) and Palan (50) to come together to put on a hundred partnership, both playing quality shots and looking in control as the game looked to be comfortably swinging our way. Lal, having been generously umpiring in the sun for a while was forced to raise the finger as the partnership ended and whilst further wickets fell, overs were fast running out and the game was looking incredibly tight. It was the appearance of Fanner at the wicket that allowed Town to creep ever so closer to their target, keeping a calm head to play an important innings but the game was far from done and sadly when he fell, the last over arrived and three runs were still needed to win. Things were tense with 9 and 10 at the crease but Myring and Parmar are smart old players and with two balls to go had tied the scores. A dot ball later and now we were all praying. Then Parmar managed to push the final ball back in front of him and both ran for their lives, making it home to win the game in dramatic fashion. It was a great performance from the team today with excellent spirit throughout and although we made life difficult for ourselves by dropping catches, we also stuck at it and found a way to win together as a team. A Mighty 3s team!
