Match report On a warm and initially cloudy day at Chestnut Avenue, The Mighty 3s took on Northampton Exiles 3s in another close encounter. Having being asked to bowl first Town's Parmar and Patel used the overhead conditions and new ball effectively taking early wickets, which continued when Myring was introduced also making further inroads with the score still quite low. Mapara bowled well and was unlucky not to have had a wicket with a couple of missed chances whilst Gordhandas was bowling tightly and was able to pull off a spectacular one handed diving effort off his own bowling to leave Town feeling that they were close to wrapping things up quickly. Sadly a late partnership developed for Exiles and some big hitting along with wides and and missed chances allowed them to climb up to 150 with Lal who kept well assisting in a couple of late run outs with, one from the Silver Fox Dave Harding, showing us he's still got it. After a delicious tea from Fanner, Town's reply started with the loss of Rizvi and Lal early but Mapara and Palan steadied the ship and put us back on track. Their departures however allowed another partnership develop between Bentvelzen and Gordhandas, well mostly Gordhandas (60) who smashed the Exiles bowlers far and wide and gave us a real chance of winning the game. Sadly wickets steadily fell as we tried to get over the line and in the end came up just short for the third week in a row. The team played a decent game today but it will haunt us slightly with the missed chances and wides bowled, along with a few of us giving our wickets away because that is what is making the difference in these close games between us winning and losing but saying that there were good efforts and team spirit throughout which I can't fault.
